Ceramic Tiles

Made to Last a Lifetime
“There are still intact installations in the ruins of ancient Rome and Egypt. Pompeii has many examples of beautiful ceramic tilework that are still pristine after 2,000 years,” says Dave Gobis, executive director of the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation.

A Versatile Tile Option

Ceramic tiles are thin slabs of clay made of the dust created from rock, slate, marble, or certain inorganic materials. This clay mixture is baked and pressed into a specified size and shape and is hardened by oven firing. The shape of the tile is determined by the method in which it is cut. Ceramic tiles can be punched, chiseled, tumbled, or rectified. At this point, a digital image can be added to the surface. Then, ceramic tiles are usually coated with glaze and then baked a second time. Ceramic tiles give you a lot of options in terms of design and function. They are a wonderful choice for any room where you want a creative design. Further, ceramic tiles can be used for many interior projects, such as walls, floors, shower enclosures, countertops, and backsplashes.

Ceramic tiles carry a lot of advantages:

  • Durable
  • Versatile
  • Heat and water resistant
  • Easy to clean
  • Do not harbor germs
  • Can be cut into a variety of shapes
  • Can be glazed with a variety of colors
  • Can be arranged in creative ways, specific to your taste
  • More cost effective than porcelain
