Laminate Countertops

Laminate countertops are seeing a resurgence in popularity thanks to the availiability of a variety of new patterns. From mid-century modern to the bright and bold, laminate provides myriad choices to give your room that certain look you’re going for.

Save yourself money

Laminate countertops can replicate wood, stone, or ceramic using detailed photography. Embossing adds realistic texture to the surface. Often it is difficult to distinguish between laminate and the real thing. Laminate provides the look and feel of exotic wood or expensive stone at a fraction of the cost. In addition to saving money, laminate comes without some of the drawbacks that come with natural materials. Laminate is known for affording DIY (Do It Yourself) installation as a reasonable endeavor. We can tell you more about how to do it yourself or you can have us install it for you!

Laminate is constructed of four layers:

Wear Layer – The top layer is a clear finish made of cellulose paper saturated with melamine plastic resins or aluminum oxide (a hard mineral compound) to resist abrasion. This layer protects the laminate from stains, fading, surface moisture, and wear.

Decorative Layer – Sandwiched in the middle, a detailed photograph printed on the core layer below gives the laminate the appearance of wood, tile, or stone.

Core Layer – The core layer is the other middle layer of the laminate countertop. This central core board is comprised of Medium Density or High Density Fiberboard made of compact wood fibers and resins that support weight and stress.

Stabilizing Layer – The bottom layer of the countertop consists of a cellulose paper saturated with melamine plastic resins.

How convenient

Laminate countertops are the easiest to care for on the spectrum of countertop materials. Vacuum, sweep, or wipe and virtually anything can be cleaned up. This makes laminate countertops a great option if you have young children. Toddlers can spill all they want and you only have to be concerned about the cost of paper towels – not hiring a maintenance crew to repair the damage. Designers’ Touch carries laminate countertops from Pionite, Laminate, Corian, and Cambria.

We work with you on your project every step of the way – from selection and design to installation.
